A highlight of my career, The Space Programme, created in collaboration with Jo Mangan (Performance Corporation), has been running biannually since 2008. It has evolved and changed over the years and in 2018 we created DEEP SPACE with a focus on immersive technologies and performance.

I have been the programme dramaturg and facilitated the residencies that offer intensive exploration of process, artistic development and cross-artform collaboration. It brings together a diverse international multi-disciplinary team of artists to connect, work and eat together in beautiful Irish surroundings such as Annaghmakerrig or Castletown House. The programme offers R&D time without the expectation of ‘end product’, and provides space for exciting and unexpected artistic partnerships to grow.

DEEP SPACE 2018 was a special edition of the SPACE Programme which focussed on collaborative processes in arts and technology. DEEP SPACE brought together artists, technologists, VR developers, interactive designers and creators to explore the ever-shifting intersection of arts and technology.

SPACE 2022 build on DEEP SPACE (whilst reverting back to our original name) by continuing the focus on collaboration around artistic experiences offered in the XR and hybrid sphere.

It takes place in Ireland every few years and over time, more than 60 artists from all over the world have benefitted from the programme. Each year’s outcome has been vastly different due to the hugely varied alignments of artforms, artists and interrogations involved.
